Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of wedding ceremonies do you do?
I typically work on humanist weddings - these ceremonies are written specifically for you and will tell your own story… so no two are the same. All your guests on the day will feel involved as we celebrate your union into marriage together.
There are very few restrictions with humanist weddings so if you want your mum to sing a song or your nephews to do a tap dance, we can make it happen! Or perhaps you want something more subtle and traditional… whatever is meaningful to you can be factored in.
These non-religious respectful weddings are not yet legally binding in the UK, but Humanists UK are working on it! You’ll need to register your marriage with your local council; most of my couples do this a few days before the ceremony. We are hoping this will change soon and humanist weddings will become legal like they are in Scotland and N Ireland.
For weddings elsewhere in the world, please check with your venue/ planner on the legalities in your area.
Can a friend perform our ceremony?
Absolutely. Some couples know that they want a friend or family member to marry them… it can be very beautiful and even more personal. I can help you write and develop a ceremony script for a loved one to deliver, giving you all the structure you need but leaving lots of room for them to add personal touches and stories.
I can still advise on readings and vows, and also offer a one on one coaching session with your friend with tips on performing the ceremony.
How do I get started on a wedding speech?
I always say that you should start writing your thoughts down as early as you can. What do you most want to say on this important day? Don’t worry about structure at first, just get the words down on paper and I can help with the rest.
Most often, my clients send me their notes/ brain dumps and I will work with them to turn them into a fully formed coherent speech complete with jokes, pauses for laughter, and just the right level of sentiment.
We can start off with a call so I can understand more about the type of speech you want, and then I will follow up with some questions before I create your script.
I’m terrified of speaking in public - can you help?
Yes! As well as helping you write the speech, I will also coach you through this process and give you the confidence to talk calmly on the big day.
I tailor my tips for each client - a best man will need a different type of speech to a bride for example.
My biggest tip is to be well prepared, so we’ll make sure we have your finished script nice and early so you have plenty of time to practise and prepare.
How much do you cost?
My prices start at £175 ($215 USD) depending on how much of my time you need.
